Scavengers Is the Spiritual Successor to Halo 5’s Warzone Mode
A new game from former Halo 4 creative director Josh Holmes, who is now the CEO of Midwinter Entertainment, has been announced. Titled Scavengers, the multiplayer survival shooter features similar elements as Halo 5’s Warzone mode. It uses the Unreal Engine and a cloud-based platform from Improbable called SpatialOS.
“When we introduced Warzone in Halo 5, it represented the pinnacle of blended PVE/PVP,” said Holmes. “Now with SpatialOS, we have the ability to push the boundaries of ‘co-opetition’ gameplay in Scavengers, with teams of players competing as armies of smart AI move intelligently across the map, hunting down players and each other.”
Set in the near future during a new ice age, Holmes says the game will mix exploration, survival, and combat. This includes fighting and teaming up with other humans, gathering resources, and fighting various AI enemies. Midwinter Entertainment says that the game will feature “hundreds of free-roaming and highly sophisticated AI enemies, with distinct factions, weapons and behaviors.”
As for the collaboration between Midwinter and Improbable, CEO of the former, Herman Narula, said the following:
“There’s been a really nice creative meeting of minds, we’ve really hit it off as teams. I’m personally a big fan of Josh’s work and there’s been a lot of creative engagement on the game.
“As we started talking to Herman and the folks at Improbable and learning more about SpatialOS, it became clear to us that this was a really fantastic solution for the problems that we were facing as a team. We started talking about the game that we were trying to build, and we just started getting really inspired by the conversations that we had about the sorts of possibilities that were out there for game experiences that at this point just don’t exist. It felt like a really natural partnership.”
Scavenger currently has no release date or platforms.
