Shenmue Series Creator Yu Suzuki Apologized for the Delay
Shenmue III has been officially delayed, according to an update post on its Kickstarter webpage. It was previously slated to come out in late 2018 but publisher Deep Silver explained that the game needed more time for “polish”.
This is the second time that Shenmue III has been delayed. It was originally supposed to come out in December 2017.
“The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe,” Deep Silver explained.
Yu Suzuki, the lead developer of Shenmue III, apologized for the game’s delay.
“To all of our backers, we are very sorry for the delay,” Suzuki said. “After much discussion with our partners, Deep Silver, we have concluded that extending the release will allow us to deliver Shenmue III at its best. We promise to use this time to improve the quality of Shenmue III.”
“We cannot thank you enough for your enduring support,” Suzuki added.
This delay comes as somewhat of a surprise, considering that only a few months ago Cedric Biscay, a producer on Shenmue III, tweeted that the game was going to launch later this year.
Shenmue III is currently planned to be released in 2019 for the PC and PS4.
