Microsoft Will Comment Further On the Game Later in the Year
The classic RTS, Age of Empires is making good progress according to Microsoft’s head Phil Spencer. The game which is being developed by Relic, the company behind the Dawn of War and Company of Heros series. Age of Empires IV was announced at Gamescom 2017 and it has been very quiet ever since. There was no mention of the game at Microsoft’s E3 presentation on Sunday. But fear not, there will be more information about the game later this year. Phil Spencer said that the reason it was not shown was due to the fact that they simply didn’t have enough time to talk about it. But in all honesty, the game is most likely not ready yet. Which is fine.
Microsoft seems like they have a ton of faith and trust in Relic. The studio has an impressive resume, especially when it comes to RTS’s. The Dawn of War and Company of Heros franchises are often regarded as some of the best series in the genre. Phil Spencer also added that Relic was revisiting a lot of Age of Empires I and II to use as a guideline for the new game.
The PC classic has not had a game that has come out for it in almost fifteen years with Age of Empires III releasing in 2005. Age of Empires IV will very much be a revival of a dormant franchise. It will be fascinating to see where the franchise ends up after not releasing a game in such a long time. However, the franchise is in good hands. And it looks as though Microsoft genuinely values the series too.
What do you guys think? Will the new Age of Empires impress? Or will it be a disappointment?
