Say Goodbye to Amazon Prime’s 20 Percent Discount on Game Pre-Orders
If you’re an avid gamer and an Amazon Prime subscriber, you may just be disappointed with the company’s recent announcement. In just over a week, Amazon is saying goodbye to the 20 percent discount on game pre-orders, which means you may be losing out on a bunch of savings!
No, this isn’t some sort of joke, we’re a few months past April Fools after all, Amazon really is making this major change to the Prime membership.Back in 2016, the online retailer unveiled this discount program on both pre-orders and new game releases. Instead of this popular benefit to being an Amazon Prime member, the company will now be replacing it with a brand new incentive. And the worst part? These discounts are going to disappear in just over a week’s time, on August 28th.
So what’s the new incentive that’s set to replace this 20 percent discount on game pre-orders? The online retailer says Prime members will instead receive a $10 store credit for pre-orders on “select video games”. Once a customer has pre-ordered an item that qualifies for this credit, they must wait for up to 35 days to get the $10 in their email. Be warned, these credits will only be valid for 60 days after activation. Though Amazon is touting “Gamers get more out of Prime,” with this new offer, many gamers likely won’t share that same opinion. With that said, now you can use the discount to get even better deals on games that are already out, and at least that’s a little bit of good news.
And it’s not just the Prime pre-order discounts that are disappearing either. In addition to this already disappointing announcement, it was also confirmed that Twitch Prime services will see a change as well. Starting on September 14th, new Twitch Prime members will no not be able to view streams without ads. And this universal ad-free viewing will also disappear for current Prime subscribers on October 15th. Here’s the reason why, “Advertising is an important source of support for the creators who make Twitch possible. This change will strengthen and expand that advertising opportunity for creators so they can get more support from their viewers for doing what they love.” You can check out the full list of

Are you glad to see that you can now use a credit for all of your other purchases, games or otherwise, or would you just prefer to keep the 20 percent pre-order discount?
