There’s Still A long Ways To Go, However
Anthem has had a proper rocky road since its launch. Things are getting better, however. Just this week, BioWare released Anthem patch 1.1.0, delivering several major fixes. There’s still a lot left to take care of, but this is a good start.
First, the good news. You can now remotely select contracts from the mission board, you can pick new missions at the tail end of the mission you just finished, and you can access the Forge during missions, strongholds, and freeplay. The bad news is that these fixes have caused some delays in the future content roadmap.
A recent posting on the Anthem subreddit noted that BioWare “have been prioritizing things like bug fixes, stability and game flow over the new features of Act 1.” Given the tumultuous state of the game at launch, this seems like a wise decision. Indeed, successful games as a service models rely on this first strike/cleanup/progression model in order to survive long term. The question now is whether Anthem’s player base will survive this process. Hopefully the aforementioned delays are brief, with a balance between new content and improved systems going forward. Anthem is out now on PS4, PC and Xbox One.
