Seven of Ten of the Best Selling Games of the 2010’s Were Call of Duty
The NPD Group has officially released its list of the ten best-selling games of the 2010s in the US across all platforms such as Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. Seven out of the ten are Call of Duty titles, showing the dominance of the franchise as a whole, consistently releasing top-selling titles. The full list is based on dollar sales in the US, giving us an idea of what American gamers consumed the most in the last decade. Despite the numerous Call of Duty titles making their way to the list, Grand Theft Auto V holds the number one spot. The current Call of Duty title is Modern Warfare and it’s available on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
The following is what NPD Group had listed as the ten best-selling games of the last decade:
- Grand Theft Auto V
- Call of Duty: Black Ops
- Call of Duty: Black Ops II
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
- Call of Duty: Ghosts
- Red Dead Redemption II
- Call of Duty: WWII
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Considering how many Call of Duty titles made the list, it’s interesting to see two big Rockstar titles in the mix as well as the iconic, generation defining Minecraft. Activision Blizzard is credited with each of the Call of Duty sales while Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive is credited with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. Minecraft is the only item on the list with multiple video game manufacturers in the publisher section. Minecraft is owned by Microsoft but remains available on nearly every platform, including mobile.
Are you surprised by Call of Duty’s dominance in the 2010’s? Do you expect the trend to continue through the 2020’s? Let us know in the comments below!
