Castlevania Requiem May Include More Titles
When we think of classic Metroidvania, Castlevania has to be one of few franchises that come to mind. If it’s ever on your mind, then you can rejoice when it comes to PlayStation 4. The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea have officially rated the game for Sony’s video game console.
Specifically, the committee has rated Castlevania Requiem: Symphony of the Night & Rondo of Blood (thanks, Gematsu), which suggests the two games are part of some collection. If true, then we can probably expect more games from the franchise. Nothing’s been officially confirmed, but we may hear an announcement from Konami soon.
The re-release of Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night may represent a worthy change of pace for publisher Konami. Respectively, the games released in 1993 and 1997, the latter improving on the original platform gameplay in every way; as the game that’s set early in the timeline, it even inspired the Netflix series.
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a Castlevania release, even if this rating suggests nothing more than a re-release. Nevertheless, long-time fans of the series have some nostalgic gaming to look forward to, while newbies can experience platform-adventures from the genre’s heyday. At the tail end of 2016, Konami sued one fan for attempting to remake the original Castlevania game. Of course, the point of such indie projects is to restore the games we’ve missed. If developments from Korea turn out to be true, fans will have no need for remakes.
