Wakanda Forever

2018’s Spider-Man game was full of Easter Eggs for other Marvel heroes and properties. This year’s successor, Spider-Man: Miles Morales runs in the same vein with cultural references, including a Black Lives Matter graffiti wall. One of the more touching Easter Eggs is to the late, great Chadwick Boseman, who played T’Challa/Black Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During the game’s credits, a tribute to the actor was written by the development team: “In loving memory of a noble kind, Chadwick Boseman. His honor, strength, and compassion will reverberate for generations to come. Wakanda forever.”

Chadwick Boseman

This is not the only mention of Boseman in this game. There is a street called Boseman Way located in New York City. On 42nd Street, between 1st and 3rd, players can find the Boseman Way street sign. What is the significance of this? Chadwick’s big breakout film was 42, the Jackie Robinson biographical film. There is one more instance where Chadwick Boseman will be playing T’Challa, in Marvel’s What If…? mini-series. The episode will explore the idea of what if T’Challa was Star Lord instead of Black Panther. What If…? is expected to debut in 2021.

Chadwick Boseman died in late August after secretly battling colon cancer for four years, and he will forever leave a hole in the hearts of Marvel fans. Spider-Man: Miles Morales is out now for PS4 and PS5.
