Earlier this year, talk show host Conan O’Brien made a claim that he was the most famous Conan in the world. He received information from fans that it was actually Japan’s boy detective manga and anime Detective Conan in terms of revenue. The series is a somewhat serial procedural where a teen detective has been turned into a child through nefarious means and has to solve murder mysteries using adults as a proxy. The manga has been running since 1994 and has had 94 volumes and 25 movies, some of which rank among Japan’s highest-grossing films. Obviously, Conan O’Brien realized this story was based on his life, so he asked creator Gosho Aoyama to pay him $300 million in royalties.

To collect on this, the former Tonight Show host took his show to Japan for a visit this past week and visited a town inspired by Detective Conan, appropriately named Conan Town. O’Brien was also okay with buying all 15,000 residents of the town as compensation.

While Conan was there, Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, who is currently working on the PlayStation 4 exclusive Death Stranding, met up with the super tall redhead and showed him around the offices. Kojima is well-known to be an aggressive consumer of American media and has met O’Brien before through Conan’s Clueless Gamer segment on his show.

While Conan was at the offices, he drew his cartoon self on the Kojima Production kitchen wall and included a speech bubble asking for a job. We can only hope this means O’Brien is also in Death Stranding. He could play Norman Reedus’ older brother.

Kojima also mentions that he and Conan are the same age and I’m not sure in which direction that is blowing my mind.
