A Devil May Cry Series Is on the Way
An animated-series adaptation of Capcom’s Devil May Cry franchise is currently being developed by Adi Shankar, who was executive producer of Netflix’s Castlevania adaptation. Not only that but the series “will join Castlevania in what we’re now calling the bootleg multiverse.”
Shankar hasn’t revealed any specifics about the series’ overall story, although he claims that he “acquired these (Devil May Cry) rights myself so the jabronis in Hollywood don’t f*** this one up too.”
Shankar claims that the Devil May Cry series announcement is all thanks to Castlevania’s success, which “really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3.” Shankar continued to thank fans, stating that “I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans.”
As of now, it’s not clear if the show will be a Netflix original like Castlevania, but Shankar’s previous comments on the industry suggest that it’s definitely a possibility.
“You know I’ve seen what Hollywood has done to a lot of people significantly older than me,” he said in an interview. “I was able to break in at a super young age. A lot of the things we are talking about happened before I was even 30 and I wasn’t in a place that I could mentally handle the pressures of these big studio, corporate jobs, because they become jobs at a certain point. Right?”
“And I kept saying, ‘I don’t want to sell out,’” he continued. “Really what I was saying is ‘I can’t handle this. This is really crazy there’s a lot of politics going on. I know how to express myself and make my own thing.’ And that’s why Netflix has been such a great partner. Because you know Castlevania, they gave us complete, 100% autonomy.”
