Take a Load On

Fallout 76 is the game that many players don’t consider a complete experience. Since launch, it’s faced backlash after backlash that the company has tried to keep up with. Today’s new update presents a step in the right direction, now that the player stash limits have been increased.

Initially, player’s had to roam the wasteland with a weight cap of 400 lbs. The cap has been increased by 50%, to 600 lbs, and Bethesda has promised to go further. They’ll watch how the new changes impact the game’s technical performance, for the time being. With the dismal weight limit out of the way, players are no longer hampered by the need to sell items at regular intervals. Plus, there’s no need for a workbench every five meters. If vendors awarded more than one cap per pipe pistol, players might be set.

Of course, there are probably more than 76 bugs that still crutch the experience of Fallout 76. Bethesda has promised to roll out incremental updates, which will gradually improve performance and balance. One particular bug granted players immortality, while another caused players to become stuck in Power Armor; the latter has been fixed. Bethesda’s community team has acknowledged the issues and promised that solutions are in the works.

Below are the latest changes to the interface. You can read up on additional changes at the official site.

  • AFK: Players will now be disconnected from a game world after 10 minutes of inactivity and will be prompted with a timer 1 minute before being kicked.
  • Atomic Shop: On PC, cursor position will no longer be disjointed from clicks in the Atomic Shop while using 16:10 resolutions.
  • Enemies: Red crosshairs and enemy health bars will no longer persist on-screen when an enemy is no longer in view.
  • Localization: Subtitles will now appear correctly, and English voiceover will play, for game clients in languages that do not have their own localized voiceover when listening to a Holotape or interacting with robots.
  • Pip-Boy: Fixed an issue that could cause duplicate data to appear in the Pip-Boy’s Stat and Effects interfaces.
  • Respawn: Dying while severely overencumbered will no longer remove all map markers when attempting to respawn. Instead, the player can now respawn at the nearest discovered Map Marker.
  • Quest Tracker: Quest objective notifications will no longer appear for inactive Quests immediately upon connecting to a world.

In related news, Bethesda recently issued an apology to buyers of the Fallout 76 Power Armor Edition, promising compensation in the form of new canvas bags. It’s unclear whether or not they’ll do the same with buyers hereafter. Stay tuned for more updates as time goes by.
