Not Talking About the Taylor Swift Album
While the Fallout games have traditionally felt like living breathing worlds, where your actions not only affect the player, but the people inhabiting the world, Fallout 76 has lacked that. And that is kind of a big miss, considering it is the first Fallout game to include more than one player at a time. The Fallout 76 Wastlanders update is hopefully looking to change that. Not only are more NPCs coming to Appalachia, but players will have their own reputation and relationship with certain factions.
Players will encounter Raider and Settler factions, and you can increase your reputation with either of them by doing missions and attacking the other. From the image above, you can see the different levels of reputation for each; Stabby, Surprise, Questionable, Check, Thumbs Up, Beer, and Flirt. Those aren’t the actual reputation levels; they are more along the lines of Hostile, Cautious, Friendly, Ally, and Idolize, or something like that. Increasing your reputation with a faction does not just give you a friendly place to hang out. The higher your reputation with a faction, the more bonuses you get like a wider variety of items at vendors and faction-themed craftables at settlements.
This reputation system isn’t entirely new. In Fallout 4, companions had levels of affinity with the player that changed depending on the actions they took. In Fallout: New Vegas, different settlements and factions also had very similar reputation levels that the Wastelanders update is taking. A new trailer for the Wastelanders update is expected to hit on February 4th. Fallout 76 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
