Final Fantasy VII Remake Is Likely Going to Be Quite Different from the Original

A recent job posting suggests that Square Enix is going to be pushing the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake into the direction of an action game. The listing was posted on My Navi Creator in search of a visual effects designer for “a position that will carry the core of Final Fantasy VII Remake that is being remade as an action game,” as well as “a chance to challenge the world as a new Final Fantasy action.”

The ad also asks for visual effects experience, as well as experience with Photoshop and MAYA and a history of creating 3D game effects. Other requirements include experience with Unreal Engine 4 and After Effects, and being able to create effects for CG movies.

It’s not a huge surprise given that the game’s trailer seems to hint at more action-oriented gameplay, and recent Final Fantasy games have been less turn-based than the older games in the series.

Tetsuya Nomura, who is directing the game, previously said that he though it was announced too early.

“Honestly, I prefer that we officially reveal our games instead of seeing a leak or a rumor circulating online. Especially when part of the development is outsourced to other companies, there is always the risk that people outside the in-house team will spread information and images online. It is even worse when, during the development, a fake rumor sprouts that people start to believe, and it becomes necessary to decide whether to answer and deny.”

“The same thing happened with the remake of Final Fantasy VII,” he said. “I am well aware of the fact that we announced it too early, but even in the industry, word was beginning to spread that we were working on the game, so we just decided not to keep it a secret and officially reveal it.”

The Final Fantasy VII Remake release date is currently not set, although it was promised for before 2023.
