Monster Hunter World Is the Best Selling Capcom Title

Monster Hunter World recently became Capcom’s best selling game of all time, having shipped 15 million units globally. No previous Capcom title has shipped 15 million units, showing the strength of the Monster Hunter series. Not only has the base version of the game sold particularly well, but the first expansion, Iceborne, has shipped 4 million units globally. Monster Hunter World is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC, with Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition including both the base version of the game as well as the Iceborne expansion.

The sales figures that Capcom shared when Monster Hunter World broke records includes digital sales of World and the Iceborne expansion and both physical shipments and digital sales of the Monster Hunter World: Iceborne Master Edition. As of this month, the Monster Hunter series as a whole officially exceeded 61 million units sold.

“Beginning with the first [Monster Hunter] title in 2004, the series established a new genre in which players cooperate to hunt ferocious monsters with their friends, growing into a mega-hit with cumulative sales of the series exceeding 61 million units as of January 15 , 2020,” said Capcom. Despite taking a while to catch on with western audiences, it’s clear that Monster Hunter World has become the title to break through and gain mainstream appeal.
