Netflix Original Video Games Are on the Horizon!
The entertainment and streaming company Netflix has announced they will be attending E3. The reason behind their appearance is to talk about plans for turning their original shows into video games. E3 has not confirmed a scheduled time for the panel, aptly entitled “Bringing Your Favorite Shows to Life: Developing Netflix Originals into Video Games”.
Netflix has long discussed their desire to enter the gaming world. They have already dipped a toe into the waters with the promised July 4th release of a Stranger Things RPG game. A verified Twitter account has since teased there are more games currently in development.
Interestingly, the streaming giant has already been dabbling with the gaming community for a little while now. They have been releasing content for a couple of years that are very similar to video games through interactive experiences. Examples of these are titles such as the animated children’s program “Minecraft: Story Mode” or more recently “Black Mirror: Bandersnatch”. Adapting Netflix Original television shows into video games seems a likely next step.
Netflix has numerous options to choose from for their initial foray into video games. After Jon Bernthals recent appearance in Ghost Recon Wildlands, it could be very exciting to see his digital alter-ego in a Punisher game. With other high profile actors turning towards video games as an alternative, such as Elijah Woods in Transference, the entertainment giant may attract similar talents for their projects.
