End of the Sengoku Era, Start of a Game

From Software, the wicked minds behind Dark Souls and Bloodborne will soon be back to bring another installment set in Japan. In preparation for Sekiro, they’ve released an all-new cinematic trailer that looks like a preamble to the events of the game.

The footage for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is an onslaught of Katanas and Odachi, before we meet our protagonist. However, it looks like there’s another character that we haven’t seen before. In case you didn’t know, the story is set in the Sengoku era, back when Japan was literally Feudal and full of blade-wielding warlords. That just upped the interest factor if you ask me. Take a look.

In previous gameplay previews, we learned that Sekiro is very different from its predecessors in terms of gameplay. The currency has changed, combat mechanics are fundamentally different—though it’s still a From Software game—and death will have an ulterior function. In addition, bosses will greatly differ from those we’ve seen in the Souls/borne series. How? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on March 22, 2019. Check back for more interesting tidbits on the road to release.
