Nintendo Mobile Games Increased Number of Nintendo Accounts
According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa during a recent Nintendo investor Q&A, Nintendo’s mobile titles have strengthened their franchises and increased the amount of Nintendo Accounts created. Titles such as Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp and Fire Emblem Heroes have apparently introduced new gamers to them before Three Houses and New Horizons released. Gamers who create Nintendo Accounts may become interested in the console version of the mobile game they’re playing, inspiring them to get into the Switch version. Nintendo Switch Online is required to take these titles online and it’s available for $19.99 for a year of subscription time.
Apparently, revenue made through Nintendo’s mobile titles “do not account for a very large percentage of Nintendo’s overall business,” said Shuntaro Furukawa. Although these mobile games don’t as much revenue as expected, they are introducing new fans to Nintendo properties such as Animal Crossing and Mario Kart. Nintendo is looking for more fans to create Nintendo Accounts and apparently their mobile games are doing a great job in bringing in new accounts. A recent report suggested that Nintendo would begin winding down the release of mobile games, but it seems like they will continue to release titles that compliment Switch counterparts.
Nintendo director Shinya Takahashi also stated during the Nintendo investor Q&A that while some production development has been slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no games planned to be released in the current fiscal year have been affected drastically. The company claims that the longer COVID-19 is prolonged, the more severe the impact is on their production schedule. Titles planned for the current fiscal year could be impacted eventually but Nintendo claims they’re on track.
