The Life-Cycle Of The Switch To Be A Long One

A recent report from Nintendo contained a few fascinating details about the company’s plans for the next little while. Specifically, it seems like they’ll be taking their time catching up with the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. Also, Switch production will be back on track this Summer!

Famitsu was kind enough to reprint the details of the report, with Google translate getting us the rest of the way. Shuntaro Furukawa had this to say:

Our current console, the Nintendo Switch, is living its fourth year now, but its popularity is still increasing. We believe there are two factors behind this. First there’s how we have two hardware with different characteristics, the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Lite. The other reason is the fact we only have the Nintendo Switch as a platform, so we can focus all of our firm’s development resources to make software for it. We want to make the most out of these factors and extend the Nintendo Switch’s life cycle as much as we can.

In other words, they’ll get to the next generation when they’re good and ready, not before. Of course, even the Switch itself was a few years behind the PS4 and the Xbox One. It makes sense that Nintendo would want to give their beloved hybrid a few more years before they move on to the next project. Ko Shiota added that the Switch owners think the system is super fun, and they’re focusing on that aspect when thinking about the future. This begs the question, are we ever getting a Switch Pro, or will Nintendo just drop a brand new console at some point?
