Nintendo Switch Prices Will Not Be Cut Down for Its US Customers
Nintendo Switch consoles just got a price cut in Europe. It is believed that this price reduction is due to Nintendo’s plans of releasing the console’s OLED model in the coming month. However, it looks like its US versions will not be getting the same treatment.
“The trade price adjustment is for the European region only,” said Nintendo’s spokesperson. “There are no plans to change the manufacturer’s suggested retail price for any Nintendo Switch model in the US.”
The very first Nintendo Switch consoles were launched in March of 2017, while the Switch Lite was released in September 2019. The console’s much-awaited OLED models have already been scheduled for an official launch on October 8 this year. Switch users in Europe rejoiced after Nintendo UK confirmed that they are going to cut down the handheld devices prices in their region.
“After carefully weighing up a variety of factors, including currency exchange rates in Europe and the upcoming launch of Nintendo Switch OLED model, we decided that now was the appropriate time to change the European trade price of Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo UK confirmed.
Unfortunately for Nintendo Switch Lite users, trade prices of that particular device are not going to be affected. The same is said about the company’s upcoming OLED consoles. “The final price to consumers is determined by retailers,” they continued. “As a guide, we recommend that consumers check with local retailers to find out their prices.”
Some retailers have cut down Nintendo Switch prices to €269.99 from €329.99 in Europe, and £259.99 from £279.99 in the UK. These new prices can be found at Nintendo’s own store, and the change seems to have not yet been reflected in other retailers, such as Amazon. Considering that the changes are relatively not major, it is highly likely that the delay is only because of some currently-related changes in pricing.
