Jeff Kaplan Has Given Some Statistics for the Lowered Levels of Abusive Chat in Overwatch
After the implementation of their new endorsement system, where players can endorse a teammate for being friendly, Overwatch has had far fewer matches with abusive chat in it, with statistics from Jeff Kaplan showing a 26% decrease.
Jeff Kaplan released a bunch of statistics in a recent blog post which showed a significant decrease in the amount of abusive chat, with the most substantial being a 26% decrease in the Americas. These statistics are after the endorsement feature was launched:
“Post release of Endorsements and LFG:
The % of Competitive Matches that Contain Abusive Chat is down:
26.4% in the Americas
16.4% in KR
The % of Daily Players being Abusive is down:
28.8% in the Americas
21.6% in KR
We’re really pleased with the community’s efforts to make OW a better place! Thank you all!
And we’ll keep working on iterating on these features to make them better as well as exploring other systems to improve the gameplay environment.”
The Endorsement System
The endorsement system is a feature recently added, in which players can endorse their teammate for being friendly, or commend them for their teamwork. Being endorsed by your fellow players grants you rewards and a higher “Endorsement Level” , ranging from 0-5, which will allow you to be placed with other highly-endorsed players when using the LFG (Looking for Group) feature.
This LFG feature allows players to find groups with a similar play-style to their own, and fill up their current group without having to rely on the random PUG (Pick up Group) members you get when queuing as a party.
However, any punishments you receive through the reporting system will strip you of your Endorsement Level and place you back at level 0.
Rewards for continuously having a high Endorsement Level give the player free lootboxes, and during seasonal events they’ll even receive seasonal lootboxes in these rewards.
