Pokemon Sword and Shield Top Famitsu Sales for Last Week

According to the Famitsu sales charts, Pokemon Sword and Shield remain the leader of software sales in Japan, selling 275,959 last week. The Nintendo Switch remains the constant hardware sales leader and it’s likely titles like Pokemon Sword and Shield perpetuate Nintendo’s dominance in the console market. The latest Pokemon titles were able to sell 1.36 million units during their launch weekend and apparently many more gamers are getting their hands on the first home console main-series Pokemon titles. Pokemon Sword and Shield are available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch now.

Pokemon Sword & Shield Famitsu

Famitsu sales chart, as usual, breaks things down into software and hardware sales. The following are the top sellers in software sales in Japan last week according to Famitsu (lifetime sales and platforms in brackets):

  10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Switch) – 9,789 (3,348,488

While it’s nice to see the recently released SD Gundam G Generation rounding out the rest of the top three games sold last week, it looks like Pokemon will remain in top ten lists like this for the foreseeable future. It’s no shock that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continue to sell so well as they’re two of the best selling games on the platform. Luigi’s Mansion 3 and Ring Fit Adventure are a couple of other recent Nintendo Switch exclusive that fans are still getting on board with according to these numbers and the Ring Fit Adventure bundle even sold out in Japan.

  2. PS4 – 7,073
  3. Nintendo 3DS – 1,073
  4. Xbox One – 110

It’s no shock to see the Nintendo Switch continuing to carry sales in Japan but it’s nice to see Xbox One selling triple digits as the platform struggles in Japan.
