Though the trailer is rather short, it’s enough to get fans hyped about the movie even more. And what’s even better is that this trailer has officially confirmed when the movie will be out. It was rumored that Pokémon the Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution would be out sometime in the summer of 2019 and they were right. Gear up and get ready for the movie to drop on July 12th. Of course at this time it’s not clear whether this is the release date worldwide or just in Japan. Fingers crossed that we’ll receive that information soon.

The first trailer begins with some live footage from the original premiere back in 1998 before showcasing Mewtwo in some brand new snippets including one where you can see Mewtwo chasing Mew in the night sky. You can check out the trailer below and see what all the excitement is about for yourself.

And if you’re needing something to scratch that Pokémon itch after watching that trailer, there’s plenty to choose from with Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! recently released for Nintendo Switch. And if you’re in the mood to watch a movie instead of playing a game, the anime’s latest film: Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us is available now. Here’s the description for it, “Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us tells the story of Ash and Pikachu as they journey to a small seaside town filled with a diverse set of characters, including a young athlete, a compulsive liar, a shy researcher, a bitter old woman, and a little girl with a big secret.Every year, the townspeople gather to celebrate the Legendary Pokémon Lugia, who brings the wind that saved the town from destruction many years ago. The festival is a time for celebration, with a Pokémon Catching Race and a ceremonial flame burning brightly to summon Lugia. But when a series of incidents threatens not just the festival, but all the people and Pokémon who call the town home, it’s going to take more than just Ash and Pikachu to save the day. Will these people be able to put aside their differences and work together to rescue their town? Or will it all end in destruction?”
