All Fortnite Keyboard-And-Mouse Players Will Soon Have Only Each Other to Play with

If you’re a PS4 player who’s been trying to hone your Fortnite skills with a mouse and keyboard, get ready for a big change coming your way. In their latest blog post Epic Games has announced that some matchmaking changes are incoming soon, including all keyboard-and-mouse players to be matched with those using the same control scheme.

So what exactly does that mean moving forward? As soon as the patch including this matchmaking change drops, PS4 players who use a mouse and keyboard will only be able to play against other players with a mouse and keyboard. This will include those on PS4 and PC, however you will no longer be able to play against those using a controller. Here’s what they had to say, “We have an upgrade to our matchmaking logic that will allow for a more even playing field when enjoying Fortnite with your input device of choice. In an upcoming release we’ll be implementing input based matchmaking, which will pair you against players who are using the same peripherals (e.g. controller vs controller, KB+M vs KB+M).”

Though this input-based matchmaking isn’t a part of Fortnite just yet, it will extend to your entire playing party. This means that if even a single person in your party is using a keyboard and mouse on a console, the entire party will be matched with KB+M players on both PS4 and PC. Currently this is how it works if you have a PC player in your party. The Xbox One has no current support from KB+M play, though Microsoft is said to be working to have this available for a fall update.

Interestingly Epic Games didn’t say anything about PC players using a gamepad instead of a mouse and keyboard being matched solely with console players using their gamepad controllers. They did mention that they are working on custom controls for everyone though. “We are hoping to land this later in the year, and it will give you the ability to completely remap your gamepad to exactly your preference. In addition to customization, we’re continuing to hammer away at feel and optimizations for controllers across all platforms.”
