A Script is Currently in Development for the Classic RPG!

Rumors have been circling for a while regarding the possibilities of adapting the classic LucasArts game into a film. Today fans of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) have a reason to be extremely excited. LucasFilms has hired Laeta Kalogridis to pen the script and is reportedly close to finishing. Kalogridis is most known for her work on Avatar and Shutter Island.

On top of this, Kalogridis will write two more scripts. The initial plan set by LucasFilm is to develop Knights of the Old Republic into a trilogy. Disney spent an insane amount of money to acquire the rights to Star Wars and following the failure of Solo, they are looking to rebound. KOTOR offers filmmakers an established, passionate fanbase and a bounty of rich characters.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic follows the path of a Jedi who battles against the evil Sith Lord Darth Malek. Players recruit a team of lovable characters along the way as they traverse the galaxy in pursuit of the mysterious Star Maps and a way to stop the tyranny of Darth Revan. It is unclear if the movie will follow a similar plot as the video games or merely take place in a shared universe.

No release date has yet been announced. Rumors abound that Game of Thrones creators Benioff and Weise may take the mantle of directing the KOTOR movie. This seems unlikely as Kalogridis is already writing the script. Not to mention squandering the literary talents of Benioff and Weise seems too wasteful.
