SteelSeries AEROX 3 Mouse Review

It’s been a great year for SteelSeries. The manufacturer of gaming peripherals and accessories has released a slew of new mice this year. It feels like we have reviewed their entire line and in almost every instance, they received high review scores from us.

Durable, affordable, accurate, and responsive are just a few of the common themes in each review. SteelSeries has quickly become a rock-solid option for those looking for quality gaming mice. The AEROX 3 is no different. Sure, it’s wired, which is always a bit of a bummer, but there is no doubt the AEROX 3 feels absolutely fantastic.

All Day, Every Day

Most will purchase the AEROX 3 for gaming. I mean it is a gaming mouse after all. It’s lightweight, fast, precise and incredibly responsive. It’s perfect for gaming; however, I am using the mouse for work as well. I’ve been using it for 2 solid weeks and the more I use it, the more I am falling in love with it. It’s a perfect everyday mouse that just happens to have all the tools you’ll need to be a competitive gamer.

The ROCCAT KONE Pro Air mouse has been my go-to mouse for nearly a year now but I’ve already had to replace it once. I am not convinced it can hold up as good as a SteelSeries mouse can. Despite its lightweight, the AEROX 3 seems durable. Not to mention it is rated IP54, resistant to water, dust, and dirt. So if you get sweaty mitts like me, your perspiration should not destroy your mouse. You would think with its honeycomb shell casing you’d need to worry about getting dirt and grime inside the guts, but you don’t.

The Price is Right

The price is right as well. At the time of writing, the mouse was listed at just under $60.00 on Amazon (on sale). MSRP is listed at around $80, which is a steep price for a wired mouse but under $60 is a great value. The going rate for high-end competitive wireless gaming mice is over $100. So if you are looking for something a little cheaper the AEROX 3 is an excellent bang for the buck.

SteelSeries Prime mouse is a no-frills, no gimmicks gaming mouse. There is nothing fancy or unique about the Prime. However, the AEROX 3 really stands out. Thanks in large part to the RGB lighting. There are two RGB zones on the inside of the mouse, visible through the honeycomb shell. There is also another RGB strip along the bottom. I love the aesthetic and the mouse really pops. Even my wife was impressed with the look and feel of the mouse.

Weighing in at only 59g, the AEROX 3 is one of the lightest gaming mice on the market. Its lightweight allows for quick movements and fast response times. Not to mention it is easy to navigate, comfortable to hold, and durable, so far. I’ve already dropped the mouse and thankfully, it held up. No cracks and or any other flaws were noticed as a result.

It works as advertised on any surface as well. Sure, it glides wonderfully on my massive gaming mouse pad. No surprises here, but it also worked on my fabric cough and bumpy kitchen table. In each instance, the mouse behaved as it should and was responsive regardless of the surface. Even the rubber scrolling wheel feels good, working exactly as it should.

Clickety Click

The buttons on the mouse produce satisfying clicks and are not as loud as the SteelSeries Prime mouse. I never found myself getting annoyed with the clicks. Not to mention others in the house never seemed irritated with all the clicking either.

Simply put, the AEROX 3 gaming mouse is an excellent mouse and surpassed all my expectations. That said, I would opt to go the wireless route with the AEROX wireless mouse; however, if you are looking to save a few bucks the wired version won’t disappoint. It’s an aesthetically pleasing mouse that is quick, light, and incredibly responsive. For the money, this is as good as it gets for a gaming mouse.
