The Lightsabers are Missing the Bright, White Core

Personally, when I and some friends first saw the gameplay for Jedi: Fallen Order our immediate reaction was “why don’t they cut things in two?”. To be fair, the weapon does cut things in half but only in big moments. While that criticism is fairly widespread, EA is choosing to focus on another problem. Eagle-eyed observers will notice in the trailer that the lightsabers are missing the white light emanating from the base of the beam.

The white light is from the focus crystal and is the part of the weapon in tune with the Force. A Jedi imbues the crystal with the Force and is necessary for establishing a deeper relationship with the weapon. Lightsabers are, after all, a manifestation of a Jedi’s connection to the force.

According to critics of Jedi: Fallen Order, the lightsabers in the trailer are too solid a colour. In response, game director Stig Asmussen says “We made a mistake on that one, and since then we’ve fixed it. That was very fair feedback, fair criticism. We’ve tweaked that, and we’ve also tweaked the shape of the lightsaber blade a little. You can see the difference right away.”

It is a good sign the developers are seemingly very receptive to fair criticisms and willing to adjust.
