Last year’s release of Nier: Automata pleased and delighted a lot of fans and made a number of new fans, as well. Much like the previous Nier game, however, a number of peripheral pieces of media like books and stage plays exist to flesh out the world and Nier: Automata is no different. Viz Media has announced that they plan to bring the two books out in English over the next year.
The first book coming later this year is titled Long Story Short and is a novelization of Nier: Automata written by Yoko Taro and Jun Eishima, who frequently adapts Taro games to novelizations. Though it covers the story of the game, Taro can scarcely help himself by adding some details that weren’t in the video game.
The next book, which is aiming for Spring 2019, is Short Story Long, a collection of stories that take place in the world of Nier: Automata, much like Grimoire Nier for the original game. The stories, primarily written by Taro, tell different stories to both answer questions from Nier: Automata and ask many, many more. They include The Flame of Prometheus, which explains the origin of the machine religion, the recursive A Much Too Silent Sea, and others that were released in Japan last year.
Nier: Automata is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
