Yves Guillemot Gives Tiny Update on Beyond Good & Evil 2

It’s definitely been a minute since we last heard or seen anything on the long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2. Ubisoft appears to be hesitant to share a ton of info, but a recent interview with CEO Yves Guillemot does at least give us a teeny, tiny update on how the game is coming along.

In the latest IGN Unfiltered episode, Guillemot talks about his company’s past, present, and future. He reveals that he recently spoke with Michel Ancel, BG&E 2’s creative director, in which they discussed “another direction” for the game.

“I spoke with Michel last week about it to see where it was going; how we should move in one or another direction,” Guillemot said in the video, which was recorded last month. “We see the potential of this universe is fantastic, and Michel is really passionate [about it]. It’s going to be fantastic, I think.”

Beyond Good & Evil 2 has made a couple of E3 appearances so far so it’s possible we’ll see it again this year. One bit of extra info we do know is that the game will require a constant online connection in order to play.

“Beyond Good and Evil 2 is an online, multiplayer game with a rich co-op and seamless experience,” Ubisoft explains in a Q & A. “As such, the game will only be playable with an internet connection in order to have seamless navigation, receive dynamic updates, and play with friends (which is certainly better when you’re playing as a Space Pirate!). The choice to play co-op, however, remains yours to make, so playing BGE2 solo is absolutely possible if you’re into that lone Space Pirate kinda thing…”

There continues to be controversy around the game’s relationship with HitRecord, Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s crowdsourcing website. Revealed during last years’ E3, fans could contribute to the game’s development by submitting artwork, music, and other design elements to the game.
